Simple
tips for…
.
Peparing
effective
permit
applications.
Request
and schedule a
pre-application
meeting.
Schedule a pre-application
meeting if possible—it can be invaluable
for aligning facility and agency expectations. Prior to meeting, develop
your
strategy and data needs. Get firm commitments
for follow-up on issues that can’t be resolved
on the spot.
If
renewing your permit, look back…and ahead.
Review data collected over the
life of the current permit so that you
can
anticipate potential problem areas. You may
need to collect some
additional data to put
issues to rest. Just as important, review of
current permit conditions—are
some requirements merely historical artifacts?
Will impending facility changes
require modifications?
Engage
a cross functional team.
Get input from all associates who impact or are impacted by the permit, including
environmental staff, operators, technicians, chemists, and, if applicable, your
consultant. A cross-functional team will be much more successful in collecting
representative information and pursuing
reasonable permit conditions.
Review
and comment on your draft.
Take full advantage of the opportunity to review and comment on
your draft permit.
This likely will be the last chance to impact
conditions in your final permit.
